Juggling multiple genres at once, Chaitanya Pratap Singh who goes under the name "Y U" has been making music for a long time not being restricted to a single genre or sound. Not being confined to a specific style, diving into indie pop, Bollywood pop, sad, hip-hop, Punjabi, folk, and more, He describes his musical sound to a new listener as "Like
unravelling a mystery—you'd never know what's coming next." Interested in making music since the age of 14, our young musician realized that his skills were not good enough to be presented to the world. Since then, learning vocals and guitar and everything under the radar became an addiction. From initially leaned towards English Pop then Bollywood Romance eventually ending up on Punjabi music. Being fluent in Hindi, he makes songs both in English and Hindi.
Beginning his music career by posting covers on Instagram, and people's criticism and comments influenced the meaning behind the stage name "Y U". This new title influenced him to turn his weakness and insecurities into his power and vitality. His first song “Chal Zara tu chal Zara” released in 2019, was produced and mastered under 3000 rupees but the learning was tremendous. Realizing the depth of music production & how to join a whole song together. The happiness received after its release inspired him to make more originals and recognized the fact that he could write and compose.

"My primary goals and aspirations revolve around bringing something new and
different to the industry. I aim to work with the motto 'What am I bringing to the table?' My first goal is to contribute fresh and distinct content to the music scene. Additionally, I have a strong passion for live shows, where the excitement and connection with the audience create a unique experience."
Trying to understand his music-making process, Chaitanya browses through YouTube beats to get inspired to create his sound. Starting with a hook followed by adding a few lyrics, he then sends the demo to the producers and fellow artists for an honest critique. He emphasizes his girlfriend plays a significant role in his music-play process. Her support in music-making influenced the final product. Having other major influences, each playing their role in the sound-making process. Vishal Mishra, one of his favourites, inspired him to delve into Bollywood style. Switching to
Sidhu Moosewala or Karan Aujla might inspire to create Punjabi hip-hop. Recently, exploring Sharn’s music has influenced him to blend Punjabi elements with the R&B vibe. Also mentioning long-time friend KARN who produces and inspires him to make hip hop music.
"Initially, I struggled with overreacting to criticism, thinking I knew best. However, understanding that the audience's perspective is crucial for growth was a pivotal realization."
Shifting our conversation to future releases, Y U shares about his next project dropping on April 2nd. Describing it as a fusion of romantic lyrics with a Jersey Club best, a rising sub-genre in hip-hop known for its energetic vibe. Titled "Only You" features Fatboi Raccoon, a talented who previously worked with Bagi Munda. A second track titled "Long Distance" dedicated to his girlfriend as a parting gift is set to release in May. His main objective, for now, is to be consistent on social media platforms and release an original song every month. He even mentions his dream collaborations, with Talwiinder whom he has been following for a while, and Zaeden whose beautiful indie pop songs have his charm.

His current style of music focuses on creating beautiful Bollywood sad romantic songs, he talks about his consideration of doing generic
Punjabi content centred around cars, guns, and a gangster lifestyle, but realized this was not something he stood for or what his music was about. Love and exploring the concept of love have always been central to his songwriting. Ending the conversation by asking him to pick his favourite song, he picked one of his unreleased tracks "Won't Let Go"
"This track represents a soundscape I had been aspiring to achieve for years, blending elements of hip-hop, acoustic guitar, R&B vibes, Punjabi culture in the composition and lyrics, and a beautiful Hindi section. I'm currently looking for a suitable music producer and singer for a collaboration on this track. What makes 'Won't Let Go' special is that the lyrics are dedicated to my girlfriend"
