In the vibrant world of contemporary music, two artists, Jaiditya Jha (JJ) and Krish Gupta, known as j. Beans, have created a stirring piece titled "Rimjhim." At ages 19 and 20, respectively, they embody a fresh wave of musical innovation, blending their unique styles into a thought-provoking narrative. For JJ, stepping away from the rock genre of his band, Delhivision, this project represents a significant creative shift. “This track is pretty special to me because it’s my first time writing vocal-oriented Hindi music. I sing and play guitar, and it feels refreshing to explore this side of my artistry,” he shares.

Krish's journey into "Rimjhim" was equally transformative. He knew he wanted to create rock music, but the emotional upheaval following a breakup led him to a more introspective sound. “I knew early on that I wanted to make rock n’ roll, but a haunting, yearnful melody emerged when I couldn’t fully place the emotions I was feeling—a disconnect from the people around me,” he reflects. His evolving sound has brought him newfound confidence, and he expresses enthusiasm for the creative process: “I’m enjoying the creative process in a way I hadn’t before.”

The genesis of "Rimjhim" is steeped in both personal trials and external influences. Krish explains that the song transitioned from an ambient piano composition to a rich blend of synth and lo-fi rock over the course of ten months. “The floods earlier this year really informed our writing, underscoring the power of the rain and its destructive nature,” he notes. This duality of beauty and chaos threads through their lyrics, shaping the emotional landscape of the song.

For JJ, "Rimjhim" is not just a song; it’s a profound statement on surrender. “To me, Rimjhim is a declaration that you’ve given up. The rain serves as a reminder of the narrator’s woes and the isolation he feels,” he explains. In a particularly poignant bridge, the narrator acknowledges their solitude, leading to a dramatic release in the final chorus. “It’s very dense and emotional,” he adds, hinting at the layers of feeling embedded in their music.

Musically, "Rimjhim" showcases a blend of nostalgia and modernity. JJ describes the production as having a “dry, rough quality” reminiscent of the analog era, interspersed with contemporary synth elements. “The chunk of the production work on this song took place during heavy rains, so there’s an element of nostalgia in there—like the smell of wet earth, reminding you of countless raindrops that have fallen in the past,” he muses.

Their creative process, however, wasn’t without its hurdles. The recording sessions were marked by challenges, particularly when they encountered unexpected technical issues during a day of torrential rain. “That day gave us the final push we needed to finish the track,” JJ recalls. “My room got flooded, and I felt like I was backed up against the wall. It was clear that the rain was making us feel some angst, and we wanted to capture that energy.”

As "Rimjhim" makes its way into the ears of listeners, both JJ and j. Beans hope to forge deep connections through their artistry. Krish concludes, “I hope listeners find their own meaning in the music, though the lyrics at their core reflect longing and loneliness.” JJ adds with a smile, “Whatever he said. As long as people listen.”

Through "Rimjhim," JJ and j. Beans have crafted a musical experience that transcends personal boundaries, establishing themselves as promising voices in the ever-evolving realm of contemporary music. Their journey reminds us that even in moments of despair, beauty and connection can be found through the power of sound.
