Peekay, an emerging talent in the Indian music scene, found inspiration in the desire to revive the nostalgic sounds of the 90s and 00s rock/grunge era, particularly within her. city. With a deep-seated admiration for the rap/R&B/rock fusion of Flipsyde, it was a dream come true when Steve Knight, a member of the band, expressed interest in collaborating. Peekay reminisces, "Flipsyde were one of my favorite bands growing up, so when Steve reached out, I was ecstatic. It was the perfect opportunity to explore that unique sound."
The genesis of their collaboration occurred serendipitously at a music festival in Arunachal Pradesh, where Flipsyde was performing. A chance encounter between Steve and a mutual friend led to the revelation of his desire to collaborate with a female musician from India. "It all fell into place when our mutual friend connected Steve with my manager," Peekay recounts. "From there, the magic unfolded."
The creative process behind their single "Running" was a testament to their shared passion for music and seamless collaboration. "We had numerous conversations about our musical influences, life experiences, and artistic visions," Peekay explains. "Drawing from our personal notes and audio recordings, I composed the song, which was then brought to life by Jonathan Edward, our producer and guitarist."
Bonding over their mutual love for grunge and hard rock, Peekay and Steve found common ground in their shared musical journey. "Our conversations over the phone revealed just how much we had in common," Peekay reflects. "Writing lyrics with Steve felt effortless, as we both resonated with the sound and narrative of the song."
Navigating geographical constraints and time differences posed a challenge, but their dedication to the project prevailed. "We made it work by finding suitable timings to discuss studio mixes and ideas," Peekay notes. "Platforms like WhatsApp facilitated our communication and kept the collaboration going."
Reflecting on the essence of their collaboration, Peekay emphasizes the universal theme of "Running" and its significance in today's fast-paced world. "The track speaks to the hustle and bustle of life, reminding us to pause, take a break, and appreciate the journey," Peekay advises. "It's a friendly reminder to avoid burning out and to savor the moments along the way."
