The power of social media to propel artists to stardom overnight in the music industry is undeniable. For music enthusiasts, witnessing their favourite underrated artists finally achieving widespread recognition can be a source of joy. However, for some, the revelation of their once-hidden gems becoming widely known may stir mixed emotions.
One classic example of this phenomenon is the track Maharani by Karun, Lambo Drive, and Arpit Bala, which, released two years ago as part of Karun's album 'Qabool Hai,' which has recently taken the internet by storm and now it's everywhere. Seriously, who hasn't vibed to ‘Haanji Haanji’? This narrative, shaped by the rapid dissemination of content through social media, underscores the fluidity and unpredictability of the music industry, creating an ever-evolving journey for both artists and their dedicated fan base. (But it's a personal relief perhaps, that the explosive track gaining widespread attention isn't one of Karun's more iconic underrated iconic pieces like 'Baaliyaan' or 'Fitoor.')

Now, the genius team behind this track decided it was time for a music video, and they ate it leaving no crumbs behind, already hitting 2 million views in just a few days.! ‘The Outsiders’ had the privilege of delving into the making of this music video with Sheesh, the man behind the direction of Maharani. According to him, getting the chance to direct Maharani was like being handed the keys to a candy store, a sweet deal! In his own words Sheesh said, "When I got to know I would be directing Maharani, a song that has become so iconic in this era of independent music, it was nothing less than a dream."
But it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine. Sheesh spilled the beans on the major challenge of making a killer 6.30-minute video without losing the audience. Crafting a visual narrative that does justice to the iconic track while keeping the audience engaged was no small feat. When asked about the initial concept, Sheesh shared, "Karun was adamant about paying tribute to the vibes of 'Dev D' and 'Om-Dar-B-Dar.' The goal was to maintain authenticity and relatability throughout."

The music video boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Nanku, Arpit Bala, Chaar Diwari, and Vasu Raina, Lambo Drive, Faizan each with their devoted fan base. The team aimed to ensure that every character played a significant role, avoiding mere background presence. "We truly aimed for every character in the video to have a significant impact rather than being merely present," the team emphasized. The cast's dynamics were carefully crafted, with Arpit and Revo assuming the role of the orchestra, Karun taking the lead, and Chaar Diwari completing the circle. The result is a visual symphony that transcends the brackets of conventional music videos.
In terms of the visual treatment, Sheesh explained, "We wanted the treatment to be retro but still have a sense of modern romance. The colors and lighting were chosen to represent sorrow and happiness coming together in a dreamy setup."
