Embarking on his musical journey with tentative steps and a heart full of passion, Ehsaas recalls about the two pivotal moments that ignited his love for music. The first was during his school days when a music teacher deftly played chords on the keyboard, casting a spell that instantly attracted his young mind. Enchanted by the sound and the possibilities it held, Ehsaas found himself drawn to the keyboard like a moth to a flame. The second transformative encounter occurred when his aunt, on Republic Day, skilfully rendered the national anthem on the same instrument. The melody resonated deep within him, stirring a connection to the keyboard and its expressive power. These early encounters served as the seeds from which his musical journey would bloom. Determined to hone his craft, Ehsaas embarked on a path of formal training, delving into the depths of keyboard playing under the guidance of seasoned instructors. His dedication bore fruit as he pursued prestigious Trinity exams, a testament to his commitment to mastering his chosen instrument. However, his aspirations didn't stop there. Venturing into music production, Ehsaas experimented with software like Logic Pro, eager to explore new avenues of creativity. Though initially met with challenges and setbacks, his passion remained undimmed. Then, in 2019 the stars aligned, and Ehsaas found his stride in music production. With newfound clarity and confidence, he embraced his calling wholeheartedly, transitioning from a part-time pursuit to full-time fun.

Formal Training and Exploration

At 20 years old, Ehsaas Dudhwala from Mumbai reflecting on his debut original song, "Hum Hi Hai" by Diya Jagani, shares that it all started when he found himself tasked with conducting beta production sessions for students at the music class where he taught the basics of Logic Pro. What began as simple instructional sessions soon morphed into collaborative song-making endeavours, fuelled by the boundless creativity and enthusiasm of the group which was later joined by three or four like-minded individuals. Ehsaas and his cohorts embarked on making the initial scratch version of what would become "Hum Hi Hai” at a fellow batchmate's home studio and brought their vision to life.

Genesis of "Hum Hi Hai"

Ehsaas articulates his aspirations with a clarity born of passion and purpose. As a producer, his foremost objective transcends mere technical proficiency but rather, he seeks to unearth the deepest emotions and intended meanings within all his composition. Each project becomes a canvas upon which he crafts layers of sound, trying to reveal the essence of the music in its purest form and beyond mere replications tries to infuse his own distinctive flavour into every production, crafting sounds that are both innovative and evocative. His creative vision extends beyond conventional boundaries, seeking to push the envelope of experimentation while maintaining a commitment to the integrity of the track.

“I don't prefer making music alone in a closed room. I love having people in a room and having meaningful inputs, while having fun.”

Artistic Vision and Process

Every artist has a different approach and process of making music for Eshaas, approach usually depends on who's track it is and usually work by collaborating with other artists. Before starting the track, he usually chats a bit with the artist, understanding the psyche of them, and then have them in the room while producing the first draft of the track to understand the direction they want to go ahead with. Luckily the artists that he has worked with mostly let me have freedom to add whatever flavours he wants to, but to retain the essence of the songs and take references from other tracks, that helps his creative room widen up.

"I consult my trusted friends and collaborators to capture the mood behind my beats. It's like a group assignment in the kitchen, blending our flavours to create something special."

Diverse Musical Palette

While describing his musical catalogue, Ehsaas opts for the succinct descriptor: 'diverse.' His compositions traverse a broad range of genres, from pop to dubstep with sitar influences, Bollywood-inspired melodies reminiscent of Pritam Da, and forays into reggaeton and hip-hop. Influential figures such as Karan Kanchan, Pritam, The Weeknd, Zaeden, Anuv Jain, Lost Stories, MetroBoomin, and KSHMR have each contributed to shaping his eclectic sound, resulting in a dynamic and multifaceted musical journey.

Time Machine

Ehsaas also spilled beans on his forthcoming track, "Time Machine," set for release on the 14th of February. A collaborative effort with his cousin 'SIAN' and featuring the soulful vocals of 'Dwain Willis' for the acoustic rendition, this project represents a convergence of talent and creativity. In addition to co-composing alongside 'SIAN,' Ehsaas assumes the role of producer, orchestrating the intricate layers of sound that bring the track to life. Enlisting a stellar lineup of artists and friends, each session becomes a symphony of collaboration as they lend their unique talents to the project. At its core, "Time Machine" narrates the tale of a man burdened by past mistakes in his relationships, yearning for a chance to rewrite history. With its lyricism and melodies, the track resonates with themes of redemption and second chances, inviting listeners on a journey of self-introspection and hope.

Layers of Sound

Reflecting on his artistic journey, Ehsaas invites others to witness his evolution by exploring his YouTube channel, which documents his progression from his initial upload to his latest track, 'Goonjein'. His first upload, a cover of 'Laapata' from Ek Tha Tiger, marked the beginning of his exploration into music production. Initially, he grappled with immature programming and a limited understanding of composition, relying solely on traditional band elements.

One valuable lesson Ehsaas learned is that immersing oneself in diverse music genres fosters connections with fellow artists and inspires creativity. He suggests aspiring artists choose a main instrument to write and perform with, as it forms the foundation for crafting melodies and grooves. Additionally, freelancing with various artists can lead to unexpected collaborations and features, enhancing one's musical journey.

“I have this trait in my music. I use a patch in Logic Pro, named 'Basement Bass' in the majority of my tracks. Also, I tend to use guitars a lot in my track to give it a bit of an acoustic feel. I used to have strings a lot in my tracks, only to realise this time that overusing strings can make it sound really muddy.”
