What if the seasons could speak about love? For Mumbai-based artist Bhakti, they already do. Her debut single "When Summer Turns to Fall" is an exploration of relationships, using the passage of seasons as a metaphor for the delicate balance between love, friendship, and the unspoken fears in between. It’s a song that feels like a warm hug on a rainy day—bittersweet, comforting, and thought-provoking all at once. Bhakti’s musical journey is as textured as her music. Trained for over 20 years in Hindustani classical music, she developed her roots under the watchful eye of her Guruji while also diving into Western influences through the London College of Music. “I always had a penchant for both worlds,” Bhakti shares. “But it wasn’t until my vocal coach, Shannon Donald, encouraged me to take up songwriting that I discovered my love for storytelling through music.” Her debut single "When Summer Turns to Fall" started as a simple prompt during a songwriting workshop in 2022. What emerged was a lyrical masterpiece steeped in the realities of modern love. “The song draws from experiences we all know too well—'situationships,' 'breadcrumbing,' and the confusion of wanting more but fearing the risk,” she explains. The track captures the tension between holding onto a friendship and stepping into the unknown. "What if things don’t work out? Will it ever be the same? Is it wise to risk it all? Will we last till summer turns to fall?" The magic of Bhakti’s music lies in its duality—lyrically vulnerable yet sonically uplifting. Initially inspired by pop ballads from icons like Adele and Celine Dion, Bhakti’s vision evolved as she collaborated with her producer, Rishabh Sharma. Known for his work with Shekhar Ravjiani and Shilpa Rao, Sharma infused the track with groovy, bedroom pop vibes, complete with syncopated rhythms and a pulsing bassline. “I had envisioned something softer, but Rishabh gave it this unexpected energy that transformed the song,” she says. But behind the seamless melodies lies a painstaking creative process. Writing her first song wasn’t easy, and Bhakti admits to struggling with brevity. “I tend to get carried away—whether in writing articles, poems, or songs. Cutting down material was tough but necessary to bring out the heart of the story,” she reflects. Despite the challenges, her dedication shines through in every lyric and beat. Bhakti’s choice of themes is what makes her debut so striking. By delving into the nuanced fears of jeopardizing a friendship for love, she gives voice to emotions many shy away from addressing. “I hope listeners can find a piece of their own story in this song,” she says. “Whether it’s closure, courage, or comfort, I want the music to feel like a friend they can turn to.” The release of this track marks more than just a musical debut; it’s the culmination of years of artistic growth and personal exploration. From live performances to a full-fledged studio production, Bhakti’s journey has been as transformative as the seasons she sings about. And as she steps into the limelight, Bhakti is clear about her mission: to create music that resonates with authenticity and heart. “This is just the beginning, but I hope it’s the start of something beautiful—for me and for everyone who listens.”
