In 8th grade, Arma made a smart move by picking up a guitar during his vacation. Wanting to try something different from his usual sports routine, he convinced his dad to get him a guitar for 3200 Rs. Despite not having many resources, Arma was determined to learn this six-stringed instrument, which later became a significant part of his identity. He turned to YouTube as his teacher and started his musical journey. Aryan Soarav, who goes by the artist name ‘Arma’ in a conversation with ‘The Outsiders,' shared his musical background about not having a formal musical upbringing. However, he inherited his singing talents from his mom, who used to sing beautifully in the past.

A Jack-of-All-Trades

Arma isn't your typical musician on the block. He's a jack-of-all-trades – a singer, songwriter, percussion-style guitarist, and even a self-proclaimed one of the fastest rappers globally. In the early days, it was all about the guitar for Arma. He strummed away, focusing on that six-stringed beauty until one day he stumbled upon a finger styling guitar piece that stole his heart. Intrigued, he decided to take a shot at singing too. Turns out, it wasn't just any piece; it's still one of his all-time favourites.

Evolution of Craft

Arma's musical journey began with the creation of 'Sunlight' and 'Positivity,' his first-ever original songs. Surprisingly, he felt pretty good about them, recognizing the hidden potential in his songwriting skills. The inspiration behind 'Sunlight' was, well, sunlight itself. Arma holds nature, and specifically sunlight, above everything else, sharing, "The only thing put above music is nature, and sunlight, to be specific. I was very connected to the sun as a kid. "As time passed, Arma's songwriting skills evolved, and he learned how to captivate and enchant his audience. Now, he effortlessly writes in Hindi, English, and even Spanish. His growth in understanding and analysing various artists has played a crucial role in shaping his musical prowess.

“I actually don’t know music theory and right now I’d like it to be with his way and make music with the help of feels and driven by the sound and I’ve always tried to do something different rather than doing the right thing.”

Social Media Superhero

According to Arma, social media is like the superhero cape for any artist today, the ultimate platform to showcase their talent. In this ever-changing world, Arma believes that adapting to social media is crucial and emphasizes that sharing your music on these platforms not only helps you connect with the right audience but also boosts your visibility in the industry.

Arma shares a cool story about how he stumbled upon an app called 'Clubhouse.' There, he met a stand-up comedian who not only gave him his first gig but also opened doors to more opportunities. This chance encounter eventually led to a gig at a fancy five-star restaurant in Delhi. The domino effect continued, landing Arma a full-time musician job in Dubai, a phase he describes as the absolute best time of his life. It just goes to show the power of social media in shaping a musician's journey! Fun fact: Even I first discovered Arma during an open mic on the same 'Clubhouse' app, and let me tell you, I was completely shaken by his talent. However, there was nothing else after that until last month when I stumbled upon his reels again. Talk about a musical journey, his improvisations have skyrocketed, and we’re here for it, times a hundred!"

One-Man Orchestra

Arma's music is like a one-man orchestra – he sings, produces, writes songs, beatboxes, and even throws in some rap. It might sound too good to be true, but a quick visit to his social media will show you just how seamlessly he pulls it off. In a chat about his multi-talented approach, he admits it's no walk in the park. Doing all these things alone takes serious practice and loads of patience because, let's face it, it's exhausting! Arma proudly acknowledges the hard work and dedication that goes into polishing these skills, and rightfully so.

“I wish I has studio of my own with all the necessary instruments and monitors and a good recording microphone and a year, and I’ll give you ten albums”

All I Got Is You

Let's dive into one of Arma's all-time favorite songs that holds a special place in his heart. It's called 'All I Got Is You,' and it takes us back to a bittersweet memory. Arma shares a poignant tale about someone he knew for just ten months and this person not only liked 'Sun' but also struck many chords with him. They spoke for months until, out of the blue, she stopped responding, leaving Arma worried and in chaos.

To his dismay, he later discovered that she had tragically drowned in a lake, passing away unexpectedly. The entire song is a tribute to her, and surprisingly, Arma poured his emotions into writing it in just 15 minutes. It's a touching story of love, loss, and the power of music to capture the essence of a moment.

'Roarin' or Records

Arma boldly claims himself as the fastest rapper globally, even though he admits it's not official yet. With his track 'Roarin', he's got a blazing 45-second double-time fast verse that's the real deal. He's not just boasting – Arma's got the stats to back it up. His rapid-fire delivery hits an impressive 11.13 syllables per second, surpassing Eminem's 'Godzilla' at 10.63 syllables per second. Surprisingly, Arma gives credit where it's due and acknowledges 'Godzilla' as the catalyst for his discovery. Now, he's in the process of making it official with the Guinness World Record team. It's a rap race, and Arma's determined to be the reigning champion! “Mostly rappers are not singers and singers are not rappers, and there’s rare cases where artists can do both and this adds a lot of flavour and sauce to my craft” shares Arma

Arma's got this cool vision for his dream show, like Coldplay vibes where everyone's waving their phone flashlights, totally lost in the music. And he's got a Rema-inspired fantasy too. Imagine starting a track, and bam! The whole crowd is belting out every word. It's not just a concert; it's a party where the fans are the headliners.
