Arjun Rana, a 19-year-old musician from Delhi, found his passion for music through a desire for personal control and excellence. "I wanted it to be the one thing that I could be great at without others needing to get me to that point," he explains. This journey of self-discovery in music was a long one, marked by a period of comparing himself to others. His breakthrough came with the realization encapsulated in his mantra: "क्या फ़र्क पड़ता है?" (What difference does it make?).

Rana draws inspiration from artists like Tyler, the Creator, Childish Gambino, and David Bowie, who use their albums to create immersive worlds and characters. His upcoming EP aspires to do the same, weaving a storyline with each song acting as different acts in a play. The narrative follows two main characters through their relationship, with the first song portraying the protagonist’s confusion over the relationship’s negative impact.

Reflecting on his early days in music, Rana acknowledges that he initially tried to mimic his favourite artists. Yet, he always aimed to infuse a distinctly Indian flavour into his work, all produced in the corner of his room on his sister's laptop. Over the past year, his musical identity has evolved, though he still struggles to define his unique sound.

In his latest song, Rana breaks away from the stereotype of a Delhi musician with an acoustic guitar. He innovatively combines harmonium and his voice with a hip-hop beat. The lyrics came to him during a moment of frustration; disembarking at a random metro station, he found the inspiration to map out the entire EP and compose the lyrics in his head.

"My music is a testament to how badly I want to prove myself as a musician," Rana says. He hopes other artists can relate to his struggle with the fear of perception and understand that art should be created without concern for its commercial success. Rana's goal is for listeners to simply enjoy the music and connect with it on a personal level.

He aspires to be someone people can root for and relate to. "I've been making a real effort to stop caring about my insecurities and just put myself out there," he admits. By sharing his vulnerabilities through his music, Rana hopes to forge a genuine connection with his audience, inspiring them to pursue their artistic dreams fearlessly.
